Until We See Three of Everything

Until we see Three of Everything was an ensemble-created adaptation of Sophocles’s Elektra made in collaboration with playwright Cory Hinkle and seniors of the 2011 BFA Actor Training Program at the Guthrie Theatre. The project started with the question of whether or not it is possible to stage tragedy for an un-unified audience that does not share a single vision as to what could shake the foundations of a society to its core.

We explored parts of the ensemble’s shared experiences that in fact do tear at the fabric of their own lives, such as divorce, blended families, and physical and psychological abuse. These are all themes that relate directly to the experiences of Elektra in the Oresteia, and so it’s subsequent staging in a contemporary setting proved relatable and well-timed.
